Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer Review 2023

Powerful Pneumatic Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer With an Extra-large Nail Magazine

What We Like

There are a lot of things to like about the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer. This nailer is excellent for low-density materials like engineered wood, and nails almost effortlessly.

We especially like the adjustable air compressor that allows for you to choose the penetration force of your nail (between 80-120 PSI) depending on the size of your nail and the density of the material you’re working with.

This makes the nailer powerful enough to get the job done, but not so over-the-top that it’s hard to handle or results in preventable mistakes.

We also like the ability to adjust the depth-of-drive on the nose of the nailer. We know not all work takes place at a comfortable angle, and this feature makes it a practical choice for work that needs to be done in awkward positions, such as while you are crawling under a house or climbing up on a ladder.

You can toggle the firing mechanism with the simple push button, quickly switching to whichever mode suits the work best — sequential mode or bump mode. This is a feature not seen on many other nailers!

The Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer is more of a “specialized” nailer as opposed to an all-purpose model that can be used for a wide variety of projects, especially since it uses clipped-head nails. However, it’s a good one to have on hand if you don’t want to spend most of your working time reloading your gun’s nail magazine.

What We Don’t Like

Although the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer has a number of pros, there are a few cons that should be evaluated before making a purchasing decision. There are some caveats that we think for some people, may be a dealbreaker depending on what you’re looking for in a pneumatic nailer.

The weight of this nailer is 7.6 lbs, which is about mid-range. It’s not the heaviest nailer on the market, but it’s not the lightest, so be prepared for it to take some effort to wield

Compared to other pneumatic framing nailers, we think the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer is a tad expensive for tight budgets. The features certainly make the price worth it, however, this model may be out of reach for those focused on affordability.

We also don’t like that the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer has only one option for nails — those that are clipped-head and wire collated, or that the handle is on the smaller side and better equipped for those with small to medium-sized hands.

Clipped-head nails aren’t allowed for personal or commercial use in many states, so be sure to check that your state does not have a restriction on clipped-head nails before you purchase the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer.

However, these drawbacks are just a few, and we think that the innovative features that this nailer brings to the table easily outweigh its cons.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer is an excellent choice for individuals looking for an easy-to-use pneumatic nailer with the capacity to hold a large number of nails before having to be reloaded. It’s perfect for individuals with small-to-medium-sized hands and who want a nailer that isn’t too heavy or too light.

It’s best used for low-density materials and has a number of great features that make it an excellent nailer to have on hand for a wide variety of projects. Our favorites are the extra-large magazine and the push button adjustable drive.

Is the Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer Right for You?

The Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer has a reputation for being an extremely powerful pneumatic nailer. With 1050 in/lbs in power, this nailer is suitable for nailing on low-density materials such as engineered wood or wood planks.

The Bostitch F28WW Framing Nailer is prized for its extra-large nail magazine capacity. It can hold a whopping 100 wire-collated clipped-head nails in the attached magazine.

What this means is that you spend less time reloading the nailer’s magazine and more time making progress on the work you’re doing. Watch the notched indicator to determine when you need to add more nails to the magazine.
