Bottom Line
From our Dewalt DW735 Planer review, it’s clear that it is one of DeWalt’s finest. As a direct upgrade of the Dewalt DW734 Planer, this one comes with additional features that are sure to make it worth every penny.
However, just like the other DeWalt planer, the retail price is on the high side. You’ll need around $599 to $650 to buy one. This is expensive when you consider the fact that many other portable planers cost as little as $250.
The price of the Dewalt DW735 Planer is similar to the price of other more powerful thickness planers that can handle large scale industrial-style cutting.
However, if you use the DeWalt Two Speed, 13-Inch thicknesser like that, you will end up overloading it.

No matter how thick a piece of wood is, you can always thin it out with the right thickness planer. Even if you decide to buy raw lumber to save cost, you can make it fine and ready for furniture making with the Dewalt DW735 planer.
Like many other DeWalt products, this planner is durable, powerful, and easy to maintain. They are easy to use as well.
So, whether you’re a professional woodworker, a semi-professional, or someone who has never used a planner before, you’re not going to have a problem using the Dewalt DW735 planer.
As you’ll see in our Dewalt DW735 Planer review, one of its most unique features is the dual speed gearbox that allows you to adjust the motor to your advantage.
This isn’t something you’ll find in every planer in the market. What else should you expect when you buy the Dewalt DW735 Planer? Keep reading to find out.

Features of the Dewalt DW735 Planer
Two-speed Gearbox
Whether you’re a hobbyist or professional woodworker, having a planer that gives you more than one cutting option will always be beneficial because of the versatility it offers.
The DeWalt Two Speed, 13-Inch thicknesser comes with a gearbox that gives you a dual speed option. This allows you to change, not just the speed rate but the feed rate as well.
This way, you’ll get the best out of every cut. All you have to do is change the gear to meet the needs of the material in question since not every material will require the same speed.
You can make the feed rate faster when you’re working on a tight schedule and slower when there is no rush.
15 AMP Motor With 20,000 RPM and 10,000 RPM Cutter Head
When it comes to planer motors, DeWalt goes all the way. All DeWalt power tools have motors that fit their size so no one is over or underpowered. For the DeWalt DW735, you will get a 15 AMP motor with 20,000 RPM.
RPM refers to the number of revolutions per minute. So, the motor on the Dewalt DW735 Planer turns 20,000 times around its axis every minute.
This is impressive since the motor on many other portable planers has RPM’s that range between 5000 and 10,000 RPM. So, 20,000 is way above average for a portable thickness planer.
The cutter head, on the other hand, has an RPM of 10,000 which offers 176 cuts per inch. Due to the strength and durability of the cutter-head, you can cut through wide materials quickly and efficiently.
It also comes with a fan-assisted ejection vacuum. This part of the tool chips off the debris from the cutter-head while running and redirects them to the dust collector.
Three Sharp Blades for Extra Efficiency
Three blades are better than two. The cutter-head on the Dewalt DW735 Planer has three sharp, and durable blades for extra efficiency. The blades give you a smooth first pass finish, much smoother than you’ll get from a 2-blade planer.
However, universal versions of these blades tend to wear out faster than 2-blades especially when you use it regularly.
The blades on the Dewalt DW735 Planer are helix cutters so they are more durable than the regular blades you’ll find on other lesser-known thickness planers.
The blades are disposable and reversible as you’d expect from a thicknesser and they will last 30% longer than general-purpose blades.
The blades maintain their edges so you don’t need to spend money re-sharpening them right after buying it. You’ll have to replace the blades eventually but this would be after months or even years from when you start using it.

3 Years Limited Warranty
The Dewalt DW735 Planer comes with a generous 3-year warranty card. The warranty plan allows you to request a free repair or replacement within the first three years after purchase.
However, the warranty will be void if you ever try to repair the device yourself. It doesn’t matter if you use your hands or you ask someone else to help you fix a problem.
As long as it is not DeWalt that fixes the problem, you can’t claim the warranty. Also, the warranty doesn’t apply if the problem is due to wear and tear. It only covers manufacturer defects and maintenance.

DeWalt DW735 Planer Review The Verdict
From this review, you can see that it is an ideal option for beginners and semi-professional woodworkers. The cutter-head, motor, and dual-speed gearbox are all extra-ordinary.
The blades will last 30% longer than universal blades. Everything about this model is great but it is a portable planer that isn’t suitable for high volume commercial projects daily.
Also, the thicknesser is expensive at the $599 – $690 price range. A first-time buyer may not be able to afford a planer that costs this much, especially when there are many cheaper options out there.
