Bottom Line

The DeWalt DWE305 12-Amp Reciprocating Saw review here shows that it is a great power tool that will come in handy during woodworking projects.

Most people use it primarily for small cutting projects and for cutting wood in delicate places that bigger saws can’t penetrate.

However, it can still be used to cut thick wood and low-density metal without stress. The push and pull function of the blade ensures that it goes through thick wood but the blade isn’t as durable as we had hoped it would be.

If you’re not careful, it’s going to shatter during use and you’ll have no choice but to return it. Most power tools come with storage cases but this one doesn’t.

A reciprocating saw is a fireman’s best friend. These saws can be used to make quick cuts on wood and they are primarily used during woodwork on windows.

Apart from wood, they can cut through other materials as well including metal sheets. The only thing reciprocating saws can’t cut is rock and there is no reason you should be trying to cut rocks with a saw in the first place.

One of the best reciprocating saws out there is the DeWalt DWE305 Reciprocating Saw. Like many other DeWalt products, the DWE305 saw is durable and powerful. It does what it was designed to do without stress. As long as you take good care of it, it’s going to last for a long time.

In our review, you’re going to find out if it is the right product for you.

Features of the DeWalt DWE305 12-Amp Reciprocating Saw

Variable Speed Trigger Allows You to Control the Speed

Variable speed is an important feature in a cutting power tool but not every reciprocating saw comes with a variable speed feature. The case is different for the DeWalt DWE305 12-Amp Reciprocating Saw as it comes with a speed trigger feature that allows you to have complete control of the speed.

This offers you versatility. You can change the speed according to the texture of the wood you’re trying to cut. Most woodworkers like to increase speed when they are working on strong textured materials and reduce it when they are working on softer materials.

The trigger is simple to use. You don’t need to stop to change the speed. All you have to do is squeeze harder when you want more speed and reduce the pressure when you want less speed. The speed you’ll get with this saw ranges from 0 to 2,900 strokes.

12 Amp Motor Allows You to Get up to 2,900 Strokes

As long as it’s not a manually controlled cutting tool, it’s going to have a motor. The motor on the DeWalt DWE305 Reciprocating Saw can be compared to the brain or heart of a human body.

Without a motor, the machine is more or less useless no matter the size. It is the motor on the DeWalt DWE305 Reciprocating Saw that converts the electrical energy you get from the power outlet to mechanical energy which is needed to power the device.

Like with other motorized power tools, the speed and power of the DWE305 saw depends on the Amps of the motor. This handheld power tool comes with a 12 Amp motor.

All you need to make the motor work is a power line that offers at least 120 volts of electricity. It is this 12 Amp motor that allows you to get between 0 to 2900 strokes per minute.

blade clamp-is-equipped with keyless lever action

Blade Clamp is Equipped with Keyless Lever-action

It’s time to talk about the blade. There is a carbide blade on the DeWalt DWE305 Reciprocating Saw that does the cutting on your wood.

Right after you set the blade in position and pull the trigger, the device will go to work. It is an ideal blade that allows you to get 1⅛ inches per stroke. This is more than enough for cutting through basic furniture-making wood.

To ensure that the blade doesn’t become loose or misaligned during use, there is a keyless lever-action blade clamp that holds it in place. This keyless clamp also makes it incredibly easy for you to change the blade when it’s time for a replacement.

All you have to do is raise the lever to release the clamps or lower it to tighten it after you have replaced the blade. There are 4 different positions on the clamp that allows you to adjust it.

It is important to note that the blade on the DeWalt DWE305 Reciprocating Saw isn’t as durable as we expected. A little too much pressure can leave it broken.

Lightweight, Compact and Comes With Three Years Warranty

Another interesting feature of the saw is its lightweight and compact design. It weighs about 8 pounds with a dimension of 19.25 x 9.38 x 4 inches.

So, using it for overhead tasks isn’t going to be a challenge. The blade comes with three years limited warranty. So, if you notice any manufacturer defect, you can request for a replacement or repair.

DeWalt DWE305 12-Amp Reciprocating Saw Review The Verdict

The review above shows that it is a great option for anyone who needs an affordable power tool for delicate cuts. The 12 Amp motor will give you all the power you need for your woodworking projects.

However, the blade is not durable and no storage case comes with the package. A storage case is always a useful part of a power tool no matter to size.
