Tools Needed

  • Wood Glue: Common in woodworking DIY projects, especially the ones listed below
  • Circular Saw: Check out the best kind to buy here
  • Drill or Driver: To ensure all your pieces are faceted together securely
  • Miter Saw: We have an excellent buying guide on miter saws to make it easy for you.
  • Sander or Sandpaper: For a smooth finish on your final product, whether you decide to paint or stain it.
  • Nail Gun: Not sure what type of nail gun to buy? Check out our nail gun checklist!
  • Kreg Jig: Crucial for making sure your holes drilled at an angle are the same size and even
  • Brad Nailer: Obviously a more specific type of nail gun, our brad nailer guide will help you pick the one best suited to your project
  • Tape Measure: A wise person once said, “measure twice, cut once.”

Our Favorite DIY TV Stand Plans

The plans we’ve compiled range from modern to rustic, with lots of different style options. All the DIY TV stands included in this article have various capabilities, from storage options to dimensions to find the perfect fit for your space.

The best part is every TV stand has complete diagrams or pictures to follow to make sure you complete each step correctly.

01. DIY Barn Door Media Console TV Stand Plan

diy barn door media console

If you’ve got a small space to work with but need a sturdy DIY pallet TV stand, Shanty 2 Chic has got you covered. This Barn Door TV Stand is specially crafted for an odd-sized area and works best for living rooms with less-than-ideal space.

They finished this piece with a solid white coat of paint and cute glass knobs on the doors, but you can mix and match the hardware to find the perfect fit for you and your décor style.

The TV Stand structure is made out of hardwood pallet, and Shanty 2 Chic decided to use primed MDF for the trim, but any other 1 x 4 wood board, like pine, would work too.

In addition to detailed descriptions and close-up shots of the building process, this TV stand plan also has free detailed plans. These plans will fill any gaps in understanding you may have, especially with its color-coded instructions for both dimensions and assembly.

02. DIY Console Table TV Stand

diy console table

This versatile DIY Console Table TV Stand can be used in various places, not just under your TV stand. It’s beautifully finished with two differing tones – metallic for the structure and a dark stain for the shelves.

Unlike the other TV stands, this console table doesn’t have any hardware involved, but you can change the colors you want to use to finish it.

Instead of having closed-in shelving, the display is open all around – ideal for cute displays below your corner TV and your DVR (Or DVD player or gaming console – you get the point.)

MyLove2Create also makes sure to include visual instructions alongside up-close action shots to ensure your project goes as smoothly as hers did. If you find yourself needing a table in your entryway, you can always duplicate this project and put it there too!

03. Rustic DIY TV Stand Plan

diy rustic tv stand

If you’ve always wanted a nice corner TV stand but never had the budget for it, look no further. Angela Marie Made completed this DIY Rustic TV Stand at a fraction of the cost for buying one premade.

Although finished with weathered wood treatment and darkly colored chalk paint, you can change the finishing products to whatever you think will look best in your living room.

To build the top part of this stand, you’ll have to use your miter saw to cut your 2 x 6 x 10’ board into four pieces, each with 45-degree mitered cuts. You’ll need two pieces that are 39.5” long and two that are 18.75” long.

Without printable directions available, it’s safe to say this project should be attempted by those who already have some woodworking experience. Although, if following pictures and descriptions suits you best, feel free to give this Rustic TV Stand a try!

04. DIY Modern Floating TV Stand Plan

diy modern floating tv console

This DIY Modern Floating flat screen TV stand, or vanity, is both impressive and unique, depending on where you put it. The unit includes both open storage and actual drawers, as opposed to shelving hidden by doors.

With the construction of drawers involved, this TV Stand is a bit more time consuming than the others. This impressive piece of furniture is made of ¾” thick plywood and stained a natural color.

However, installing this console as a floating unit will require you to secure it into the studs in the wall. If you’re hesitant about attempting this, you can always check out how to use a stud finder to see if you’re up for the challenge.

The step-by-step directions have only instructional blueprints accompanying them, so if you’re a visual learner, this TV stand may not be for you. Seasoned woodworkers who know how to read non-color-coded blueprints will complete this project with ease.

05. DIY Sliding Door Corner TV Stand Plan

 diy sliding door corner console

This uniquely shaped corner TV Stand is perfect when the only place you have to put your flat screen TV in is a corner. Because the visuals included for this piece are only digital, it’s up to you to decide the hardware and finishes you’d like for your project.

The ability to customize so freely can be a blessing for those who know the exact style they want for their corner unit. The door and shelving in this unit are both made out of plywood – ½” thick for the door, and ¾” thick for the shelving and back of the TV Stand.

Unlike other items on this list, this piece has plywood trim at the bottom for added flare, which needs to be cut at a 45-degree angle on both ends with your miter saw.

The instructions included for this build are color-coded but include no visuals of the finished product. If you follow blueprints well, this project is ideal for you and your level of expertise to make a new DIY pallet TV stand.

06. 4 Door DIY TV Stand Plan

diy 4 door media console

This 4 Door TV stand is perfect for larger TVs and living rooms that need both open and closed shelving options. The finish on this TV Standis a mix of paint and stain that can be modified to match your exact styling needs.

If you do like the look, however, Shanty 2 Chic has included links for where to find the hardware and wood planks so you can make a replica of their console.

As with their other TV stand, there are detailed, color-coded instructions with this project. This project is ideal for beginners who want to expand upon their skills.

A Few Notes

As previously mentioned, the DIY TV stand listed vary in the required skill set for completion. However, all projects require you to be comfortable working with Kreg jigs for angled nail holes and miter saws for precise angle cuts.

Of course, accurate measurements are also imperative when building anything, especially doors and drawers. If even a tenth of an inch is off, the entire thing can be crooked!

These TV stand plans are perfect for both beginner and seasoned woodworkers alike. If you feel you need more practice before tackling a big project like a TV stand, visit our woodworking page to browse things like the best safety practices or get inspiration for other beginner DIY projects.

Remember to be careful when operating equipment and don’t use any machinery while under the influence (unless you’re high on life and creativity!)

We hope this list fills the TV-stand-sized-hole in your home and brings you a new project to enjoy.
