Bottom Line
As revealed in our Shop Fox W1829 Benchtop 6″ Jointer review, it is a useful power tool that will come in handy in the home of everybody interested in woodworking as a hobby but not commercially.
While the motor is strong, it isn’t powerful enough for large scale projects. With a ⅛ depth of cut, it will cut through commercially available wood without stress. However, the price of the Fox W1829 is on the high side, especially when you consider the fact that it isn’t a perfect jointer.
The jointer doesn’t have a quick blade adjustment feature like many other popular jointers. You might have difficulty adjusting the fence as well.

The Shop Fox Benchtop Jointer is a great option for woodworkers who know the value of flattening wooden surfaces. It has an impressive 12 AMP single-phase motor with 1½ horsepower.
The motor isn’t the only great thing about the jointer. Many other functional features will be discussed in our Shop Fox Benchtop Jointer review. It can be used to fix the imperfections on boards irrespective of their intensity.
The cutter-head speed allows you to work on different surfaces without stress. With this jointer, you don’t need to spend too much money on professionally tampered wood. You can get raw lumber and flatten it into shape with a jointer.

Features of the Shop Fox W1829 Benchtop Jointer
Strong 1½ horsepower, 12 AMP Motor
As stated above, the horsepower of the motor on this W1829 Benchtop Jointer is impressive. With the 12 AMP motor and 1½ horsepower, you can handle all your household woodworking projects with ease as long as you have a power line of 110 volts.
This is the average power for a portable jointer motor. If the motor is too powerful for the jointer, it might burn within the first few months after use. The no-load speed of the W1829 Jointer is 10,000 RPM and the cutter-head offers about 20,000 cuts per minute.
This is not bad for a jointer with a 12 AMP motor. Many other jointers with the same motor size offer cutter-head speed that ranges between 10,000 to 16,000. So, 20,000 RPM is commendable.
Maximum Depth of up to ⅛
The Shop Fox Bench Top Jointer has a depth capacity of ⅛. The blades will never cut too deeply into the wood when you run it through the cutter-head.
The ideal cutting depth doesn’t just help you make precise cuts, it also prevents the blades from getting dull quickly. Also, without the right depth of cut, the motor will overheat.
There is no thermal protection to turn the motor on the W1829 Benchtop Jointer off automatically when it overheats. This is why ⅛ is the perfect maximum depth of cut.
While the blades of the Shop Fox Benchtop Jointer aren’t as long as general purpose blades, they are still long and sharp enough to flatten boards that are up to 6 inches wide.

28½ Inches Cast-iron Table
The cast-iron table on the W1829 Benchtop Jointer is 28 ½ inches wide. This gives you enough room to place the board. If you need more space, you can get it by placing external tables on both sides of the benchtop jointer.
Since the table is cast-iron, it is durable so it’s not going to break when it is in use irrespective of the weight of the material. We recommend that you don’t put boards that are too heavy or thicker than 6 inches.
If you want the jointer to last, you need to take good care of it. In addition to the table, there is an adjustable aluminum fence that is designed to promote precision while you work.
This fence proves especially useful when you’re trying to flatten boards with uneven surfaces. You can adjust the infeed table between 45° to 135° depending on the board you’re working with. It is important to note that you might experience some difficulties when you’re trying to use the fence on the W1829 Benchtop Jointer.
Locking the fence in place is difficult assuming you can successfully get the adjustment option you want. Also, there is no gauge to guide you through the fence adjustment process.
Safety Push Blocks and Dust Management System
Feeding the Shop Fox Benchtop Jointer 6 inch power tool is easy and safe thanks to the free push blocks that come with the package. The push blocks put more than enough distance between your hand and the board or blade.
This reduces your risk of injury accidentally. Also, the dust port and collection system is great for getting rid of dust and wood chips automatically while you work.
The dust bag is about 2½ inches in size and it can be found beneath the outfeed table. It keeps you safe and keeps the workplace clean. You should expect the dust port and extraction tool to get rid of at least 70% of the sawdust.

Shop Fox W1829 Benchtop Jointer Review The Verdict
The Shop Fox W1829 Benchtop 6 inch Jointer review above shows that it would have been a great cutting power tool if it didn’t have so many flaws. The 12 AMP motor gives you enough power to handle regular home cutting needs.
It isn’t durable enough to be used by a professional. Professionals or people who have experience with other jointers will not be able to use this device comfortably.
This is because of the difficulty in making accurate blade and fence adjustments. If you’re going to spend around $369 to $400 on a jointer, it should not be fundamentally flawed.
