The Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer review above shows that the product has many great benefits.
It can be used by a hobbyist and by a professional because it has a powerful motor for heavy duty and stronger cutting capacities.
It’s not every day you’ll get to see a handheld planer that offers 45,000 cuts per minute with a 12.5 Amp motor.
However, the price is on the high side. You’ll need between $240 – $250 to purchase one. You can purchase many other handheld planers, at $150.
Apart from the price, the TPL 180 planer still has some flaws. The motor overheats sometimes and reversing the blades is difficult even if they are reversible blades.
Handheld thicknessers have unique advantages over regular benchtop planers. They can reach places you can’t reach with benchtop planers.
Whether you’re trying to trim wood from above or below, you can get the job done quickly with the right handheld thicknesser.
The Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer is one of such flexible planers that also happens to be perfect for heavy-duty planing.
It is sturdy and weighs a little more than regular handheld planers. This isn’t surprising since this planer offers 45,000 cuts per minute, twice what many other handheld planers offer.
The 3-blade technology ensures that every move the planer makes is smooth and clean.
In our Triton TPL180 Triple Blade Planer review, we will address all the features that make this thicknesser one of the best in the market.

Features of the Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer
12.5 Amp Motor With 15,000 No-load Speed
The 12.5 Amp motor of the Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer is impressive with a no-load speed of 15,000. This isn’t bad for a handheld planer.
It is the motor that powers the blades allowing you to make 45,000 cuts per minute. A typical handheld planer only offers between 10,000 to 20,000 cuts per minute.
It’s a corded planer so there is no need for batteries; all you need is a strong power outlet.
We recommend connecting the planer directly to the wall outlet but if you need more flexibility, make sure that you connect it to a strong extension that isn’t going to be overheated by the power of the motor.
However, it is important to note that the powerful 1500w motor doesn’t have a thermal control feature. Thermal protection is a unique feature that usually turns the motor off automatically when it is producing more heat than required.
The power tool doesn’t have this feature. So, you will have to pay attention to make sure you put it off yourself when it overheats.
It’s also important to note that the cord attached to the Triton TPL 180 1500W thicknesser isn’t of the best quality. A thick cord would have been more reliable.
3-blade Technology for Precision Cutting
The Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer has a blade drum design with three blades. This makes it more efficient than handheld planers that have only two blades.
Two blades get the job done, there is no argument there. However, if you’re looking for a thicknesser that will get the job done faster and smoother, a 3-blade drum planer like the Triton TPL180 1500W will be a good fit.
The three blades are thin but sturdy enough to cut through the toughest wood surfaces without wearing out. They are all attached to the planer.
However, we noticed that reversing the blades isn’t as straightforward as you’d expect. For people who have years of experience using planers, this may not be a problem.
For those who have never used thicknessers, something as simple as this can be rather discouraging. The three blades are carbide blades so durability and sharpness are not a problem.

Depth Adjustment Dial and 0 – 3/32″ Depth of Cut
Like many other great thicknessers, the Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer has a 10 position depth control adjustment dial. The dial is coated with rubber for your comfort and the cuts of depth range from 0 to 3/32 inches.
Using this 10 position depth control adjustment knob, you will always be able to make precise cuts irrespective of the texture of the wood. The Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer has a planing width of 7 inches so it’s not ever going to fall short.
You can shave off a significant amount of wood in a single pass saving time and energy in the process. Thanks to the low center of gravity of the planer, it is incredibly easy to use despite the size and weight.
Dust Management System and Comfortable Handle
The Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer has a comfortable and adjustable bail handle. The handle is coated with rubber so you will always have a comfortable grip. This rubber grip offers increased support while working.
It also allows you to maintain control of the device all through the cutting process whether you’re working on a wide or narrow surface. The dust extraction system is more than ideal.
All the sawdust extracted from the blade is directed to the dust port which you can remove at your convenience.

Triton TPL180 1500W Triple-Blade Planer Review The Verdict
The Triton TPL180 Triple Blade Planer review above shows that it is one of the best handheld thicknessers out there. It might be a little heavier than many others but that’s because it was designed for heavy-duty woodworking.
The most impressive thing about it is the 45,000 cuts per minute. This isn’t something you will find in every handheld planer in the market.
Unfortunately, reversing the blade is not as easy as it ought to be and the motor tends to overheat. There is also the issue of the price. The planer costs almost twice as much as other handheld planers.
